Last Touch Ups

Image
Last Touch Ups     This was our last day of editing. We had already done a bulk of the editing so this was just for final touch ups. We rewatched the short film many times to ensure was noting was overlooked. From watching many major movies we had all learned the same thing. What we learned was that some huge things get overlooked sometimes. To try our best to prevent this we rewatched our film so many times. In doing so we saw things that we wanted to change. These issues involved transitions and audio. After watching we realized some transitions weren’t as smooth as we originally thought. When we had edited everything we thought it was great but soon realized that it wasn’t as good as we though. After trying some other transitions and how long the cut would be we found a balance. We had to do that about 8 times and after focusing on that we went to the next task at hand. This was to fix the audio. There was a similar issue with audio than there was with the cuts. They ...

Editing Audio

Image
Editing Audio     Today we edited the audio for our short film. Previously we had already ordered and edited the film clips so now it was time to get into closer detail, specifically audio. We started off by going through each shot and deciding if the audio had to be present or not. Some of the shots were a little to quite so while going through them if their was dialogue that needed to be heard we would turn up the volume for that specific shot. While doing this some were a little difficult to figure out because on the scenes that had dialogue we know we needed the audio but other scenes we couldn’t figure out if the audio would be needed or not. This was difficult to figure out because we didn’t know if the background noise of the scene would seem natural or odd. We decided to figure that out later after we added the background sounds and other sounds. When we went to add the sound for the alarm we had an issue. This issue was that we couldn’t add the music. The only w...

Starting Editing

Image
Starting Editing This was our first day of editing. We decided to use iMovie to edit our film. We chose this because I and my group members all have an apple product that can run iMovie. Since we all have iMovie we would all be able to work on our own devices or at our own home or on a different devise if we don’t have a certain one. Doing this would ultimately make editing more reliable and consistent. We started by transferring all of the clips we wanted to use into iMovie however, we ran into an issue. The clips wouldn’t download even though they were in the camera role. To solve this we attempted to air drop all of the clips to the device we were editing on. After doing that we were able to transfer all the videos into an iMovie project. Once all the video clips transferred we started by ordering the film because they were put into the project into a random order. After ordering the clips we began to edit the clips to their appropriate slide. When filming we believed that it w...

Last Day of Filming

Image
Last Day of Filming     Today was the last day of filming. Well at least it was our last planned day of filming if we are able to accomplish everything we plan too. The last thing we had left to film was the car crash scenes. We started by setting up the props and setting and the did the beginning car scenes before the crash. In each of the three car crash scenes they first show April driving then he getting in the car crash then aftermath of the car crash. Since for the scene of the aftermath of the car crash required the fake glass and blood we though it would be best to put that on the scene after we’ve already filmed the beginning of the car scenes so we wouldn’t have to constantly be changing set with the props. We shot the first car crash scene but we had to  keep reshooting because I kept laughing. I am the on playing April in our short film and acting does not come easy to me. I kept laughing or sounding weird when I would say something, so that required som...

Second Day of Filming

Image
Second Day of Filming Today was the second day of filming. For our second day of filming we had planned to film the car crash scenes. After our first day of filming we realized there was a specific way we were gonna go about filming. Since our film is different then normal short film and involves repeating scenes we would have 2 record each scene in the string of scenes that repeats multiple times. So instead of going in the order of the story board we thought it would be easier to film each groups of scenes when we went out to film. This would be easier because we would already be in the right location, have the right props, have the right costumes, and it would just be better to do. When we went to start filming we ran into some issues. At first everything was going well and we were able to shoot some scenes however weather did not agree with us. As we started filming outside we started to notice you couldn’t hear the audio that well. It was really windy that day so the audio on...

Making and Setting Up Props

Image
Making and Setting Up Props       So previously we had our first day of filming. The first day was really fun. Although I had already said that we had prepared for filming and gotten props ready since we were running behind on our filming schedule we still needed to touch up some things on props. On the second filming day we were planed on filming the car crash scene. This means we would use the props we had planned on using, like the smoke machine, fake blood, and fake broken glass. We had already prepared and had the fake blood and smoke machine ready to go. We had prepared the bulk of it many days before. A couple days before our second filming day I made the fake glass for the group with the materials I had already gotten before hand. The process of making the fake glass was fun but difficult at times. I made the glass by melting down sugar and letting it cool on a sheet. When it dried it was a kinda cleared and glass like sheet. When I tried it the first time it...

First Day of Filming

Image
First Day of Filming     Today was our first day of filming. I was very excited to film. Today we were focused on filming the “first day” April lives through. We ended up deciding to instead of film “day 1” we film the first 3 times she wakes up. We decided it was best to film the scene in that location at the same time to ensure the setting in each scene was decently the same. Although this was a small detail we thought the lighting should look similar even if the window/outside view was not directly seen. So we spent time and skipped over some story board slides to film each starting scene. While doing that we ran into an issue with the lighting. The way the bedroom was set up the window was directly behind the actor so it was hard to see the actor when recording. As a solution, we waited until it wasn’t to bright outside before filming and decided to keep the window out of the actual shot. This means that if we had to reshoot anything the time of day didn’t matter. Th...

Final Schedule

Image
Final Schedule     Although we had already come up with a schedule we had to revise and make changes to it. Unfortunately when we were about to start filming one of our group members had gotten covid. This would mean they wouldn't be able to film with us. We thought it would be best if we were to postpone filming. We made the decision that we would wait until our final group member could film with us. Although this would put us behind schedule we thought it was the best decision for the group and to make the best final product we could. Due to this change, we had to form a new schedule. This new schedule required us to add the dates we missed into the time we had left. We added more filming dates but also just extended some filming dates. We extended filming dates by about 2-3 hours. Although his schedule was tight we knew we could make these dates. With all these changed dates new issues came up. There were issues with group members needing rides to our filming location...

Preparing to Film

Image
Preparing to Film     This was my and my group's final preparation before filming. Since we lost filming days we knew it was best to fully prepare since we were running behind. We started off by printing out copies of our storyboard and script. We would use these on filming day to ensure that we didn't miss filming any scenes. We would also print these things out so they would be easily accessible on filming day. The next thing we would do would be to ensure we had the costumes and props ready. The costumes are just normal clothes so we had that figured out but props were a different story. For our film, most of our props were household items but a few of them were not. This included the special effect items. One of the things we planned on doing was using sugar as broken glass. This is for the car crash scenes in our film. Since we can't actually crash cars and are limited with editing we will have to use alternative methods to convey to the audience a car crash has happen...

Creating the Website

Image
Creating the Website     I and my group created a website for our short film. The website would be a form of advertisement for our film. Before even starting to create our website we knew the basics of how we wanted our website to appear. We wanted it to look clean and modern while also keeping the dull color pallet that was in our postcard. At first, I entered the information into our film and let the website maker create an outline. When the outline was created I realized that it didn't really look like so keeping some things the same we began to edit our website. I started by adding the essential information. This included the name of the film, synopsis, production company, location of the film, showing dates, showing times, and other information. After having all of the information we then continued to focus on the appearance of the website. We broke up the information into categories that were tabs on the website. Starting with the first tab we added the name of the...

Creating a Postcard

Image
Creating a Post Card    I and my group created our postcard. The postcard would be used as an advertisement for our film. We first decided it would be best to make the postcard landscape and double-sided. This way the information and images could be spaced out and look nice. We thought it would look best if we put the title over a picture. This would be the cover of our postcard. When figuring out what picture we wanted we knew it had to match our mystery genre. We ended up choosing a picture of a road since the main character April dies in car accidents every time. When transferring the picture to the postcard we made the picture more "dull" by making the picture more black and white than colorful. When writing our name on the postcard we found it difficult to find what color to make the title. We wanted it to be a very neutral color, like black white, or grey. We tried the different colors but it was hard to get a color to stand out since we had already made the pictur...

Creating Social Media

Image
Creating Social Media     I and my group created social media for our short film, Wednesday Drive. We knew we wanted to have social media because we know social media is such an influential thing in the world right now. We started off by making a Gmail account for our film. All social media account usually require an email to be attached to them so we thought it would be best to make a designated email for that. We made the email name pretty basic and easy to remember. This also applied to the password because while making all the accounts we made them all the same. Although we know this isn't the best idea when it comes to security it would be best to ensure we don't lose logins and the information on those accounts is lost. When creating a Gmail we were automatically attached to a youtube account which was great because we planned to use one as a form of social media. This was great because we did not want to use Gmail as a form of public communication so being automatically...
