Title Research: She Dies Tomorrow

Image
The Research: She Dies Tomorrow     This title sequence is for the horror film "She Dies Tomorrow". I used the website  https://www.artofthetitle.com/title/she-dies-tomorrow/ to research the title sequence of the film.  1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?          - During the opening sequence the title of the film is shown in the middle of a scene. It is abruptly included in the middle of a calm scene and cuts in with extravagant music and a tense atmosphere before returning to a calm atmosphere.  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?          - The prioritized image is the title's name in very big bold colored letters with a black background. The conflicting colors are used to enhance every aspect of the title sequence and pique the interest of the audience before the following scenes continue.  3. What connotations do these images carry?     ...

Title Research: 30 days of Night

Image
Title Research: 30 days of Night     On my research of horror movie title sequences, I researched the movie 30 Days of Night. I researched this through the website  https://www.watchthetitles.com/titlesequence/30-days-of-night/.  1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?          - Certain cast and the title of the movie we're introduced during the title sequence. A title was also shown in the scribbled and messy font. The bold red font was also used as a representation of the bloodshed in this horror film.  2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?          - Many of the images used appeared to look like burned photos. These allowed the story to be told in an unsetting and unique way. The pictures indirectly tell an overview of the story and pique the interest of the audience. The story is told through pictures and the non-diegetic sound playing in the background. 3. What conn...

Title Research: Silent Hill

Title Research: Silent Hill            I researched a horror film, "Silent Hill"'s title sequence to further my research in title formations. I used the website  https://www.watchthetitles.com/titlesequence/silent-hill/ to answer my questions. Each director and horror film has its own twists while still staying true to the genre.    1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?          - The title of the movie appears during the opening sequence. The title was not as colorful and was a subtle hint towards the horror genre. The title also appeared scrubby and messed up to resemble almost spiritual writing following along with the elements of a horror genre.   2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?          - In the sequence, black and white pictures were used to convey a disturbing and suspenseful mood. These images appeared such as a static T.V...

Title Research: The Exorcist

Image
Title research: The Exorcist I researched the opening title of "The Exorcist. To research, I used the website https://www.artofthetitle.com/title/the-exorcist/.  1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?          - The sequence cuts from the scene to titles appearing on the screen.  the scene shown is an introduction to the setting. The title reads the name of the film in bold all capital red letters, "THE EXORCIST".   2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?          - The setting is something that is exposed in the opening sequence before the title of the film appears. The title then cuts and appears in bold letters before the scene continues.  3. What connotations do these images carry?           - This title sequence has an unsettling connotation to it. As a suspension and quiet setting are introduced the title is cut to and the audience feels...

The Website research: Watch the Titles Website

The Website Research: Watch the Title Websites In title sequences, it is not only the visual aspect artists and directors have to worry about. The creators have to focus on the atmosphere created by the title sequence. They must slowly bring viewers into the atmosphere soon to come by the film. A lot of research is done on the film and the history behind it to get all of the feelings and atmosphere captured in a shy few seconds or image. It is said by many that the title sequence must capture the central heart of the film. Although title sequences are done in relation to the show some are different because every depicted title sequence is all based on the artist and the approval of others. Title sequences affect the way people observe the films. Some title sequences can even win awards on their own due to their upholding perfection in capturing everything. I learned that the main points that must be incorporated are, characters, plots, atmosphere, and the whole story. That is the ...

Title Website Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
Title Website Research: Art of the Title Website     I have researched the title sequences and learned many significant aspects of a title sequence. They must grab the audience's attention. Title sequences go through weeks of planning to ensure that they are the best they can be. Some title sequences start one way and its final product looks nothing like the original product. The artist creates these sequences inspired by the film. Title sequences are meant to be a creative way to introduce the title of the movie so it feels as if it is part of the movie. They should stand out while still blending in with the same theme of the movie. This deals with changing fonts colors, pictures, and any other graphics. The title is one of the first things the audience sees. This means that skilled artists must make the right decision with trial and error until they get it right and approved by those above them. I decided to use this website to research because it had analyses of curre...

Genre Research: Antebellum

Image
Genre research: Antebellum           I researched movies dealing with horror. I dealt specifically with the movie Antebellum. The main element I noticed right away was the costumes. They weren't as stand-out horror as other costumes commonly found in horror films. The film also had elements of non-diegetic sound and diegetic sound. This was used in the film to appoint the audience's attention to specific fearful scenes of the movie. Camera angles were also important to show perspective in the shots and their settings. An example of this was the wide shots used. This established the setting's layout and the eerie distance of the characters. Point of view shots was also established to introduce the new setting. The main element I found fascinating was the camera angles. Seemingly normal settings appear to have a tense and scary atmosphere created by the angle. The sound used is also something I found fascinating. The director's attention to combining sm...

Genre Research: The Conjuring

Image
Genre Research: The Conjuring      I chose to base my final task on horror. I chose to evaluate the movie "The Conjuring" which is well known in the horror genre. This film has the common elements of specifically low-key lighting. This set the mood in the setting and I found that very interesting. The mood and tone were already set just by the setting and lighting used. I also noticed the camera movement. I thought it helped spark fear into the audience with just the simple angle or movement of the camera. For example, they used a handheld camera movement to simulate as if a spirit was watching. This indirectly signals to the audience's fear of the situation. another example of camera movement is the zoom-in. This zoom-in is specifically done from the inside of the house to reflect that the characters are being watched and again reinstate that fearful mood. This is my favorite element of the film because it shows the importance and the differences slight attention t...

Genre Research: IT

Image
Genre Research: IT      This was the last movie I researched under the horror genre which I picked. The movie I researched was IT. Elements I observed in the film were costumes, camera angle, lighting, and makeup. There were many other elements but these were the main ones. Costumes were one that I was favorable of. Sounds were also a big use in this film. The mainly diegetic sound was used in the form of dialogue and faint noises of the surroundings. This allowed the viewing audience to feel the suspense and presence in the scene. Usually, I prefer to have a more subtle hint of horror in costumes and many aspects of a film's genre. However, in this film, I loved the way the costumes and makeup really brought the story alive, along with the prop used as symbolism of the villain of the horror film. I also thought the lighting used was an excellent and much-needed element in the film IT. The low-key lighting set carried on the tone of any scene change as the lighting follow...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
Genre Decision Blog      I have decided to do horror for my genre's opening sequence. After researching all the genres I found that horror seemed the most interesting. It was also more suitable for the vision I had in my head about my opening sequence. I found all genres intreating. Specifically, I was fascinated by the fact that every genre has its own little twist on conventions. I found horror the most interesting because it was more subtle when making the audience feel a certain way. However, horror was subtle it still had a powerful pull over the audience's feelings. The audience can feel scared and suspense without there even being any direct action of the horror tone/mood. I thought that this may be a little more challenging because I'm not focusing on as much as the direct action reflecting a horror genre. I am focusing more on the indirect conventions found in horror films. I believe that media should go beyond the direct actions and dialogue of characters....

Genre Research: Drama & Comedy

Genre Research: Drama & Comdey Drama :     - Camera Movements Panning: This is used to show the characters and their surroundings especially in rising action or the climax when tension is high especially in a drama.  Tracking: This is used to add suspense and a tension      - Lighting Low-Key Lighting is used to build tension between characters which is a needed trade in dramas where there is usually a conflict between two or more characters.  Camera Angles High Shot Angles are used to demonstrate the lack of power in characters usually in a conflict.  Low Shot Angles are used to demonstrate the power a character or group of characters have in the situation.     - Elements of Drama External Conflict with another character Internal Conflict that only the audience sees  Tension, Anxiety, and Suspense in many Scenes      - Sounds Non-Diegetic: This is used to increase the effect of the action/dialogue of charac...

I made a PowerPoint and researched the horror genre, and I learned many things about the conventions of the genre. This includes lighting, costumes, sound, movement, and many other things. The camera angles commonly used in the horror genre create an uneasy and disturbing feel by using low angles, tilted angles, bird's eye, and close-ups. Low angles and titled angles provide a sense of power and psychotic mood of the character or setting the camera angle is done on. Close-ups are also used to reflect fear into the audience as a facial expression and feelings of the character are reflected onto the audience. Bird's e...

Although camera angles are important, the movements are also, horror...

My Pitch

Image
My Pitch      I came up with 2 pitch ideas. Both of my pitch ideas are surrounded by the theme of horror. Horror is a theme I am really interested in because I am specifically fascinated by how you can make someone feel fear in the safety from where they are watching their show. How someone can feel fear as if they are witnessing it in person however knowing that they are just watching something thru a screen. This is the reason both of my pitches are based on horror. My first pitch is revolved around a mystery killer. The opening sequence will be the first kill that starts all the mystery of the film. The setting will be introduced which is a normal city town and the opening sequence will include the first kill to follow many. The opening sequence will also introduce the first killer's subject and the way the killer kills. This will grab the viewer's attention without giving the killer's identity, relationship, and motive away. The audience will be left with questi...

Starting The Final Task

Starting The Final Task      Hi, my name is Vanessa Gilbert. I am a Sophomore at Fort Lauderdale Highschool. I live at home with my mom and dad and do remote learning at home too. I also have a sister who is in college and comes home sometimes on the weekends. This is my first year in AICE Media AS. Here I use my creativity to come up with original filming, ideas and so much more. I will be creating the opening sequence from an original film I come up with. In this original upcoming film sequence project, I decided to work alone. There are too many factors and I believe that working alone is my best option. During this time it is difficult to work with other people and film with especially from remote learning during a pandemic. So for the safety of myself and my family, I decided it would be best for me to work alone and during the filming process. I do however understand that I will most likely need other people to help me in the filming aspect of this project. Si...
