 Genre Decision Blog

I have decided to do horror for my genre's opening sequence. After researching all the genres I found that horror seemed the most interesting. It was also more suitable for the vision I had in my head about my opening sequence. I found all genres intreating. Specifically, I was fascinated by the fact that every genre has its own little twist on conventions. I found horror the most interesting because it was more subtle when making the audience feel a certain way. However, horror was subtle it still had a powerful pull over the audience's feelings. The audience can feel scared and suspense without there even being any direct action of the horror tone/mood. I thought that this may be a little more challenging because I'm not focusing on as much as the direct action reflecting a horror genre. I am focusing more on the indirect conventions found in horror films. I believe that media should go beyond the direct actions and dialogue of characters. So, I believe that going with the horror theme will allow me to really embrace it. I also chose horror because I was drawn to the horror idea and conventions. I find fear and suspense created through a screen is fascinating. The director can direct the audience into fear for their life without even being present in the setting. This is something I find that stands out from all the other genres and their conventions. Fear is also a very fascinating emotion more than any other. All of the factors in my research into conventions of genres made me come to my decision. I chose to follow the horror convention when doing my opening sequence. I am very excited to go down this path that I am very interested in when continuing with this project.
