The Common Conventions in Alternative Rock


    The song I am using for my music video is Best Day of My Life by American Authors. They are a rock band and deal in alternative, folk, pop, and indie rock. When listening to this genre of music usually there is a big beat drop where the song will build up to a climax and then continue with a bigger sound. This type of music has an unconventional style different from the usual music. This will play into how the music video is formated and what is shown during these big sound parts but mainly the lyrics are a huge part of the genre. The lyrics are all said for a reason and all have an underlying message. The message itself can range from many things but it is usually inspirational, talking about having a great day, or just having a happy vibe. Although the lyrics and music sound have a lot to deal with the genre and convention there are some more visual aspects the genre has. Usually the people in these music videos are either a group of guys or girls representing the the message expressed in the lyrics. The visual aspect wavers between what type of song under the genre. In my song the tone in inspirational and happy so the music video and visual aspect reflects that same mood. The visual aspect refects the message in the song, in my case the message is expressing the fact of having a great day and how life will be great so the visual aspect reflects that. The people see in the song are having a great time and are happy while doing things that make them happy. There is no specific outfits that matches this song but it is generally presentable clothing and is either formal or nice casual. The lighting also wavers on what they are representing a great day to be. This could range from bright lighting and sunshine to dark club, however bth share the comment theme of a great time. Good vibes and messages in general can be expressed in many forms and that is just how it is in the visual aspect  of alternative rock. Another thing that make alternative and folk rock different is the sound and the usage of electronics in the sound making. This is resembled in the visual aspects when these specific parts of the song are emphasized in the visual aspect. Overall this genre of music is greatly centered around the message and the different sound it creates and that is what is commenely found and what is a comment convention.

Comparing 9, The Short ,and 9, The Full Length Movie Short Film  Today I watched the short film 9. This is a seven-minute-long animated short film. I really enjoyed watching this short film. The characters were really unique. I honestly liked the rag doll's appearance of some and the robotic appearance of others. The setting was also very unique and cool. It had a post-apocalyptic feel and somewhat reminded me of Wall-e. The sound is what really made an impact on me most though. There was no dialogue in the short film. The only sound really heard is diegetic and score. The lack of sound helped set the mood of the short film a lot. It made moments feel more scary and suspenseful. The sound of the robotic spider characters made me feel as if I was inside the film. The plot was interesting too.
