Filming Moving Scenes

Filming Moving Scenes

I started off the day by filming my car scenes that follow the establishing shots. These shots were difficult to do because there were moving shots and since I am the one recording I was trying my best to keep the camera moving on one consistent line. The first shot I did was Zoom in on the radio which would be having a voiceover in the opening sequence. After filming the scenes that were required to be in the car I got out of the car and got it moved onto the side of my street. My street doesn't get a lot of traffic especially during the time I was filming so it was the safest location to film. When cars however did come down the block I would stop filming no matter where I was and step to the side of the road. My mom was driving and I was outside the car filming. We filmed the car slowly from a low angle and during editing will speed it up so it looks like the car is going a lot faster than I could safely film. Next, I did a framed shot of the back of the car driving away. Some of the camera movements were done as I moved while trying to be as still as possible but in other shots, I stood on this rolling stool to try to get a still camera movement like a movie would do. I had to reshoot a couple of times to make sure that when I edited I had at least one perfect shot I loved. The main issue I came into was very shaky camera movement. My solution to this was using the rolling stool. It couple a couple more takes to get the shot right but in the end, I got some good clips to edit. Next, I filmed the scene of the wanted poster I created. This was to give the audience their first look into the plot of the movie. I really focused on the camera in on the photo and the words murder to really emphasize those points without dialogue. This was to really foreshadow to the audience what is happening and keep them intrigued through the opening sequence. This is when I finished my filming for the day. Overall I haven't run into that many issues and the ones I have run into I have been able to troubleshoot and solve. Overall I want my shots to be very good because my opening sequence lacks dialogue so the message and mood must be achieved through actions and camera movements/angles.
