Preparing to Film

Filming and Editing

Today I had planned to start filming so if anything unexpected happened I would have time to fix it later in production. When I was going to film I saw the weather and thought it would be best if I just waited until a better day. Since I would have been starting early delaying one day is something I can afford to do to ensure I don't spend an hour setting up just for it all to get ruined with some rain. Instead of filming today I just did more preparations and planned more. I did this because I believe planning is a very essential aspect of filming a good and coherent film. I decided to gather all my props that I would need for the scenes. I also found the costumes I would like to use during filming. While doing this I was able to confirm what I did and didn't have and make minor changes to certain aspects. I also was able to troubleshoot problems that I thought I may run into during filming preparing the best I could for it. One of the main issues I solved was spray painting my title on a wall without damaging the wall. The filming location is my house so I decided that I would cover the wall with long strips of paper and spray paint on that with the appearance that it is part of the wall. This will allow me to get the title in the movie the way I wanted without damaging the wall with paint. Another preparation I made was finding royalty-free music for the background non-diegetic sound throughout my scenes. Finding the right music was very important to me because my opening sequence does not have a lot of dialogue so the audience gets most of their feelings from the setting and the non-diegetic sound which set the mood of the scene. I was unable to find the correct music I would like, but I will continue to research different clips I can use. If I am unable to find the music by tomorrow I will find different music I will like and ask for the rights to use it by the owner. Overall I feel that I used this day very well. I am glad that I was unable to film because I was able to spend the day truly focusing on details I may have taken for granted the first couple of times I looked at my plan. With this in-depth plan, I am prepared to film smoothly and get a lot done on the first couple of days of filming so I will be prepared for any issues I won't know about later in production. My main benefit was that now instead of deciding to film and having to gather everything set up specific items I am able to generally just go out to the already set up places and film.  There are still some minor things that need to be done but I did a lot of setting up and preparation and I know it was worth it in the long run.
