Pulling All My Shots Together
Pulling All My Shots Together
A lot happened during my editing process and I had to change many aspects of my commercial to reach the product I wanted. When I continued to put the clips together I started to realize that my commercial to the song wasn't connecting and I wasn't liking the project that was starting to come together. So I decided to change the overall message of the music video and shoot new scenes to make the music video more relatable to current issues. I put together the scenes I was keeping and I then went and recorded a couple new scenes. This did make me divert from the storyboard for the last couple of scenes but I thought that the product would be better and have more of a deeper meaning that could actually change and affect people. The shots weren't recorded completely last minute. I had enough time to record the new shots the way I wanted but from all the changes I have made so far, I have learned to better focus on the final product while planning so I can make these changes during the planning and not during editing the project. At first, my film was going to about this person that got ready for their great day and had a great time but as I started to edit the clips I started to realize that my commercial didn't have meaning. It would affect people in a deeper way. So as I started to think about current times I decided to show that during these hard times you can still have the best day of your life with Covid around safely at your house doing many different things. So I went to places I knew was closed and filmed some new scenes at my house and park to really portray a message that could connect to people especially during this time. I started putting my new clips over the song and I started to realize that this was the product I wanted. A deep message portrayed in a fun yet meaningful way that could be related to. I learned how to make my audio clearer and increase and decrease the volume at different times. I also changed the saturation of color in certain clips to make the shot pop more. I also learned that I could trim shots down a lot more than I originally thought I could. This really helped to allow the correct amount of time for the whole video and to get only the parts that I wanted in the final music video product. The only thing I had an issue with was transitions and making sure they worked with the shots but I think I got better and fixed the issue. This editing process was enjoyable and one main thing I learned is to really focus on the planning and think about how the planning will affect the meaning of the film and if it's really a final product I want. I am excited about the changes I made and I really think that that's what my project needed to go that extra step.
